Matthew Provencher, MD, MBA, CAPT MC USNR

Dr. Matthew Provencher is an Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Steadman Clinic. He is specialized in complex shoulder, complex knee, and sports surgery and has over 20 years of clinical experience in providing care for civilian patients, as well as for the United States Navy’s special operations force (NAVY SEALs). Dr. Provencher has a strong interest in sports and held the position of Medical Director for the Patriots during the 2014 Super Bowl Championship season and pioneered a wellness and injury prevention program for the team. He also serves as a second opinion orthopaedist for the NFL, MLB, and the NHL. In addition to these positions, he was the assistant team physician for the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins. Dr. Provencher has been named one of the Top 28 Shoulder Surgeons and Top 28 Knee Surgeons in the United States by Orthopaedics Today. He is currently a Principal Investigator at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute with a focus on improvement in patient care and also the Assistant Editor-in-Chief of Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopy and Related Surgery. Dr. Provencher’s prolific research career includes over 264 peer-reviewed publications and articles, 148 chapters, and six textbooks. He has given over 500 peer-reviewed and invited national and international presentations in the realm of sports medicine and leadership.
